A Passion for Two Instruments
Ryan Yin believes that music is meant to be shared. Whether he is sitting at a piano bench or holding a cello, his love for performing shines through. His journey began at age five with Dr. Olga Chichova for piano, followed quickly by cello lessons at age six with Caron Allen.
Growing Up on Stage
Ryan’s talent was clear from the very beginning. By age seven, he traveled to Calgary and won third place in the Canadian Music Competition. He soon became a regular winner at local festivals, earning awards and scholarships in Milton, Burlington, Peel, and Toronto.
Double the Talent
It is rare to master one instrument, but Ryan is dedicated to two. His hard work earned him a spot at the prestigious Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music—first for cello at age nine, and later for piano at age 12.
His recent years have been a whirlwind of success:
2023: He swept the Canadian Music Competition (CMC), winning 1st place in Chamber Music, 2nd place in Strings, and 3rd place in Piano.
2025: Ryan reached new heights at the OMFA Provincial Finals, taking home 1st place for both Senior Chamber Group and Lower Strings ARCT.
Making Music Together
While Ryan loves his solo work, he truly enjoys the magic of playing with others. He is a proud member of the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Sacora Trio. With his trio, Ryan won the Grand Prize at the 2025 CMC National Finals—a huge achievement for the young group.
Beyond the stage, Ryan is always exploring new ways to express himself. When he isn’t practicing cello or piano, he spends his time composing his own music, singing classical voice, and performing chamber music with friends.
