Where Music Meets the Brain
Oliver’s journey began at age eight when he first discovered the beautiful sounds of the piano. Under the careful guidance of his teacher, Dr. Olga Chichova, he learned how to turn notes on a page into stories for an audience.
A Star in the Making
Starting in 2010, Oliver became a familiar face at music festivals across Ontario. He earned awards and scholarships at many prestigious events, including:
The Kiwanis Music Festival
The Peel and North York Music Festivals
The Rotary Burlington Music Festival
In 2013 and 2014, his hard work took him to the finals of the Canadian Music Competition. He even teamed up with his duet partner, Sarah, to take home a second-place trophy! One of his favorite early memories was being named the Junior Piano Star at the Burlington Gala concert.
Leading with Science
Today, Oliver is a top student at Western University, where he is in the Medical Sciences program. His dedication to learning has placed him on the Dean’s Honour List.
Oliver isn’t just studying science; he is leading it. As a Co-president and researcher, he has led teams to create helpful guides on public health. He is passionate about making the world of science a more welcoming place for everyone.
The Best of Both Worlds
Oliver has found a unique way to combine his two passions. He works as a research assistant at Western’s Music and Neuroscience Lab. There, he helps study how music and rhythms actually help the brain control how the body moves.
From the piano bench to the science lab, Oliver is proof that music and medicine can work together to change lives.
